Binder Park in Battle Creek Michigan

A Prairie Dog from Binder Park in Battle Creek Michigan

Imagine taking a hike through some of Michigan's beautiful woodlands with the guaranty that you will see all sorts of animals from local to exotic integrated into the landscape. The keepers have managed a beautiful blend of wildlife and nature hike using a long and winding boardwalk system that puts you right in the middle of the forest without ever getting your shoes dirty.

And yes, you can definitely find animals you want to see, from cheetah to zebra, and baby giraffes. Heck you can even feed the giraffes. That is as experience that is hard to find at any wildlife park, much less one in the middle of Michigan.

One of the most wonderful things they have done here is use the mildly hilly natural landscape to mimic African tundra giving you the feeling of walking along a path overlooking a savanna. Not just landscape but animals as well. Some so close you can touch them and some near natural features off in the distance doing whatever animals do.

The grounds are home to an aviary, monkeys, and many other animals. There are staff members conveniently located answering questions and providing guidance for getting the most out of your visit. I was very surprised by the level of interest and enthusiasm the staff maintained, even though we are nearly at the end of the summer and many of them are seasonal help.

During our trip we stopped to get hand dipped ice cream and noticed that there was even a restaurant available should we wish to partake.

There are many things to see and experience and I have only given you a basic feel for the place.

If you live in range, make the trip, you will love it.
